Lower salmon river gorge fire

I thouhgt I would remind all of those heading for the lower that it did burn from sin city beach to the pullman mine. It is also burnt from Cache Creek to about five miles after heller bar. They got it stopped there with a sweet oragne blanket of retardant. and the river is down to around 4500 cfs out of hammer. It has been a really low water year over here on the salmon.

Oh - that sucks.

I thought the Lower was never too low to float. Anyone ever pushed that?

On a different note, sounds like the Idaho Board of Outfitters have finished their investigation and the inspector has to write up his report and send it to Boise. Then, we'll see what happens.

yeah the water got low and then came back up a bit but it is going back down now. They now have a burn ban that includes berquets. You cant even cook with them. You have to cook everything over a propane stove and in a skillet versus and open style flame ie. grill and berquets and or a grill with any sort of open flame. I am going to be down the lower again on aguast 12th and will let you know how it is and what is going on down there. You cant put on at hammer now due to the pittsburg landing fire you can however put on at the gravel bar right after you turn off of Hwy 95. and the Pine Bar put in is still open. I will take some pics for you as well when were you putting on again ed? I will also be in Missoula from the evening of the 6th to the afternoon of the 9th for a bachelors party / fishing trip on the blackfoot. Were making a two day out of it any help with the fishing conditions would be greatly appriciated. Hope all is well and keep them right side up!

Dan,

We're doing the Lower from September 15-21. I would hope that all of the fires will be out by then, and we can cook.

As far as the Blackfoot, it is currently closed to fishing from 2PM-midnight. Here is a link that will update the fishing closures http://fwp.mt.gov/fishing/guide/waterclosure.aspx

Here is the current fishing report: Early's good . . . for maybe a week more. Beyond that, not so much! The lower river is warming up pretty dramatically by early afternoon and substantially by mid evening. The mid to upper river is faring somewhat better but still should probably be left alone after about noon. Early morning attractor fishing up here has been turning some BIG fish on inside bends, but the heat and the tubers will all but run you off by early afternoon. At this stage of the game, it's time to start thinking about giving the fish a rest even before the hours of restriction kick in.

Here is a good link for the fishing report. http://www.kingfisherflyshop.com/
