Memorial on the Lochsa

What a great time! We had good weather with a little bit of showers on saturday evening and then back to sun. The river was an awesome 6-7 feet, and it stayed relatively the same all weekend. The upper river from whitepine to Wilderness Gateway was large and very crisp, while the bottom run was the typical 6 foot run, clean and worth while! Sure wish you boaters out there would have been able to experience the lochsa on such a great weekend probably the best weekend all year this year until next spring. The videos were great each night as well as they were put on by the camera crews at wilderness gateway group paviallion for everyone to meet and watch, what a great show. For any of you who "ventured" out to the river kudos to you for sticking to your guns and not listening to those nay sayers who thought they knew what was up, but obviously dropped the ball on this one again what a perfect river level for quality crisp rapids. How was that coyote hunting? Just seems as though those who rely on the technology just keep getting bad information to make floating decisions by an missing out on great floats hope the season gets better for you unfortunate souls!

I came through kayaker camp, sat AM, didn't see the rig. Drove into Knife edge also, guess you were upriver. We did the South fork of the clearwater sat, then Selway sunday.

sucks you live so far away. I'll be over there almost every weekend until she stops flowing, who's the unfortunate soul now?!?!?

Dan, calling me 30 times trying to get me to go is waste of time. When I say no, I mean no.

I thought you said you had some party supplies but then when I cam through you never answered, I see how you are. As far as the river goes I might be over one more time depending on how busy I get with all of these middle fork of the salmon and main salmon trips I get to go do for work now. You did say that you were in for 7 feet and under on the Lochsa right? Just making sure what level you are interested in running or if you still are interested in whitewater? We will also be on the yellowstone near livingston and then the madison as well from the 21st of July through the 26th.

Fuckinay, discussions of party supplies and technology...I just learned that all my Nalgene bottles are going to give me cancer and I've been drinking out of them for 20 years. I never thought the water drinking would be what killed me. I'm sticking to beer and whiskey from here on out.

I'll make it over to the Lochsa one weekend this year, and be damn happy about it! PROST!

I have never floated it over 6 ft. I'd run it at 7 ft but I would want more support boats than just you Dan.

I'll have just gotten off the South Fork of the Flathead on July 21st.
Zach's wedding on the 2nd of august and straight to the Selway!

I call BS on nalgenes being bad for you....there is no support on either side of the argument.

Holy lover's quarrels!!!...

Walt, it sounds like you and Dan need to have a rendevous on the river, perhaps when the flow drops.

As far as support...I'll be there to pick up your stuff if you need. Whatever the flow.

Touché! Alright, when’s it gonna be Dan?

Walt...this weekend??? Becky wants to go camp, the flow is predicted to drop and the weather looks nice.

Ed, of all your vices that will eventually lead to your demise, I doubt you have to worry about the cumulative effects of drinking from Nalgene. Just stick with the propel fitness water.

By the way, where have you been??? That scare started years ago.

Damn walt I think this is the most converation we have seen on a single blog in quite sometimegoing on 8 comments and who knows where it will stop. Hey I am not sure but I was thinking about running the Middle Fork of the Salmon and was curious if there was any interest in that. I am looking right now at a launch date of June 1,2,3,4,or 5th. Other than that we might be able to get on during the season but it would depend on the amount of usage and recreational planning.

As far as the Nalegenes I too have heard through the grapevine that it is only the newer bottles and that the older bottles were ok. So in short other than that I havent heard anymore about it. I am going to try and get in touch with the nalegene to find out the low down. Hope all is well in MT and Ed JR. is going like a weed!

Philly, the forecast I'm looking at show's the river bumping back up to 20k. The Blackfoot looked really fun to me the other day, I might float it for my first whitewater run of the year. Yes, I'm getting old...

Dan, your a bastard! The first week of June is next week. We can't all have master degree's in recreation. Some of us have to keep the economy going! Have fun and give us a write up.

I'll keep this one going...approaching the most comments since I pissed off all the Montuckians last year reagrding river access issues and had to change my blog identity--

Walt, I wouldn't call you old, just a wuss!!! Look at the pot calling the kettle black...should we review Walt's year in pictures? Hunting, Alaska, more hunting, river trips, fishing, etc, etc...

Dan, he does have a point...most people like more than two days notice to schedule a multi-day float involving a rediculously long shuttle across most of Idaho...hen again, maybe it's just me--Get a job!!!

Dan said...

Yeah yeah yeah... I know it is short notice. I was just stiring the pot. I was seeing what kind of reaction I would get. There is a date avaliable on the 21st of september as well that opened up. Hopefully that lets the river come back down to a trickle and gives all the geriatrics out there plenty of planning time.

As far as a job goes you will all be glad to know that I am on the short list for the Middle Fork of the Salmon and Main Salmon rivers River Manager position. I know it really doesnt seem like a job but hey someone has to do it. Hopefully this will open up the ability to run the Middle Fork and Main a few times a year for management purposes. I know I will need a boat or two to run with me to gear boat should I get the position. So all of you should keep your fingers crossed for me so I can go to work and quit bugging you all to go float everyday. We will be getting together again though at some point to float though it just isnt a year of floating if I dont see Mikey flip. It just wouldn't seem right!
