It's almost time for the first lottery that may grant us a chance to float the Grand. This is the NPS web page for river trips down the Grand. The lottery will take place at the end of October. They will be accepting applications from October 1st through October 21st. What everyone needs to do is go here and create a profile. Come October you can login, pick a date and cross your fingers. Thanks for pointing everyone in my direction...bastard. There will be several thousand people applying for 197 launches, but the sun shines on a dogs ass. We also all have a bit of an advantage, except Artie, since we haven't been on the Grand in the last 5 years, which gets us five times the love. Artie only gets one or two times the love.
Remember, you can't win if you don't play.
I was able to establish my user profile without getting the red hand. BOOOOYAAAAAA! I would love to run the Grand. I have tingles just thinking about charging Lava Falls.
It's worth reading the Trip Regulations. There are some weird rules that are worth knowing. For one, during the summer you can't pick up fire wood in the Canyon, not even driftwood. If you want a fire during that time you have to pack it all with, ouch!!

Not complicated. You fill out an application, pay $25, and pray.
Some other intersting aspects that I found are as follow:
Individuals may be listed as a leader or potential alternate trip leader
on only one application per year. SO DON'T IDENTIFY ANYONE THAT IS GOING TO APPLY AS AN ALTERNATE.
Motorized use season. Beginning in 2007, the new motor season will start on April 1st and last through September
15th. Those authorized to launch trips during this timeframe will have the option of using motors. Launches occurring
between September 16th and March 31st may not be motorized. YOU CAN COLLECT FIREWOOD STARTING OCTOBER 1. FIRES/NO MOTOR BOATS. HMMM, OCTOBER
One extra set of oars must be carried on each oar-powered boat or raft.

Jesse, if you pull a permit, I do not think you will have a hard time borrowing or getting a spot on a boat.
If you pull a permit, I'll buy you a boat!
