Bitterroot-a-bangbang

Blasted this bad boy at about 10:30 Saturday morning 'round Victor. His gullet was full of corn. The property owner explained that they feed the deer NOT the turkeys, and to shoot as many as I could. It's been a different experience hunting private land in the Bitterroot. There's a ton of turkeys and Californians that feed 'em. Sprinkled here and there are people that can't stand the damned things, and haven't been able to get rid of 'em yet. We shot three that day in two different spots, but Zach's took off like Carl Lewis.

High Water Hold Out

It's April 21, and Ed Jr is still holding tough. I'm not sure what to say, but apparently he's not ready to come out yet. I'm starting to think that he is just waiting for high water...so come on sun or should I say son!

Idaho Turkey's

So we too went out turkey hunting and found there to be large groups of turkey's. Unfortunately inthe Moscow area there is still about 4 feet of snow on the north sides of the hills with nothing on the south sides. We did how ever have a bit of luck. My buddy Kinzo got the chance to kill his first turkey! Although it was not the grandpa bird that philly got it was a good way for him to start. Looking forwad to the Lochsa Rendevous on the 3rd of May. Hope to see all your smiling faces there! The second tag is avaliable May 1st and we will be doinig some turkey hunting on the Lochsa during the rendevous if you want to bring your gear.

Time for the Rivers!

The 2008 Turkey season lasted all of 15 minutes...took me longer to find all my gear than it did to call this big double beard in. Two sets of yelps and he came at ten yards in full strut and drumming. Pretty cool!

Notice our house in the background. It's a lot further than it looks...big canyon in between.

Now it's time to start Kayaking!

Old School

Some Polynesian style hooks.

This shark hook was about 10" tall and about 8" wide. The piece of white material tied on the shank is a piece of coral that they would soak in blood and fat to put some stank on it.
It's hard to tell but I think this shark hook is two piece. The wrap just below the point suggests that it's a scarf joint or something like that.

Supposedly this is like a lure. Bonito are sketchy buggers and this thing imitated baitfish.

All the line is hand braided fiber.
